Welcome to the municipality of the Marin, located in the south of the island. This community offers a panoramic view of a beautiful bay, popular with mariners who stop over at the Marina to enjoy the restaurants and beaches of the South Island. Many water activities will be at your disposal (boat rentals, kayaking, diving, fishing …) and you will also have opportunities to enjoy the beaches of white sands, Atlantic and Caribbean. The beaches of Anse Grosse Roche or Cap Macré will satisfy you. For hikers, you can do the Trace of the Caps which will make you discover panoramas and natural jewels such as the Blue Eye. In terms of services, banks, post office, gas station, covered market are located near and in the village.

The beach of Cap Macré is a large white sand beach located on the Atlantic coast, its turquoise waters, its back beach vegetation will welcome you in the best way between tanning, swimming and rest under the Coconut palms, Raisiniers and Mancenilliers ( with the greatest caution for the latter).

Mancenillier: this tree secretes a chemical compound, by rainy weather, through these leaves that can burn the skin. Recognizable by the red mark on its trunk and its green fruits (small apples), not to be confused with the Catalpa which also has green fruits but these leaves are heart-shaped adorned with beautiful yellow flowers.

Because of its exposure on the Atlantic side, the sea may be rough.

Itinerary

To join the starting point of the hike, starting from Fort-de-France, join the fast lane A1 then go towards the South of the island (N5). You will go through two roundabouts in the town of Ducos (activity zones) then two other roundabouts in the town of Rivière-Salée. Follow the direction of the municipality of  Marin. After passing the town of Sainte-Luce  then the village of Marin, turn right towards the town of Sainte-Anne (D9). Go past the gendarmerie and at the roundabout, take the third exit, direction “Cap Macré“. Continue on this road (Commune n ° 1 of Caps) following the directional signs to the beach.

Cap Macré

The road is damaged in places but it will offer you a panorama of the bay of Cape Macré. In places, you will need to be patient and courteous so that traffic in both directions may be possible.  There is also a shop is on the way where you will be able to find food and other consumer products.

To park, you will have no trouble finding a place along the beach.

As soon as you arrive, you will see through the back beach vegetation, the white sand beach and you will hear the sound of the waves on the seashore.

On weekdays, uncrowded, you can fully enjoy this beach. On the weekends, the beach is usually crowed, families or campers (bivouacs).

This beach offers a perfect setting to enjoy the day, the turquoise waters and the shade of the trees to picnic, and at night, you will be able to see stars due to the little light pollution in the area.

Tip: in case of long weekend, this beach is usually very courted by campers. If you want more isolated beaches during these periods, privilege the beaches of AnseTrabaud, Anse Grosse Roche or the beach Pointe Borgnèse.

On the beach, take advantage of its large area to find a quiet corner.

If you walk to the corner of the beach, you will discover small pools between rocks. If the sea allows it (high tide and few swells), you can enjoy warm waters in which you can sit. Watch out for the sea urchins that may be there.
