Welcome to the municipality of the Trois-Ilets, mainly touring tourism with its areas of Anse Mitan, Anse à l’Âne and Pointe du Bout. The hotels, restaurants, shops and bars are concentrated in these places where you will have the opportunity to discover in particular the Creole village and the village of La Poterie to restore you and buy local products and souvenirs. In terms of activity, you will find in this town dive clubs, catamaran excursions, paddle trips, beaches, casino, tree climbing, cultural (museums) or golf courses. In terms of service, there is a post office and banks in the municipality.
Itinerary
To join the Forest Vatable, leaving from Fort-de-France, join the A1 speedway then go towards the south of the island (N5). You will go through two roundabouts in the town of Ducos (activity zones) then two other roundabouts in the town of Rivière-Salée. Take the exit just after this last roundabout, indicating the direction of Trois-Îlets (D7). After 10-minute drive, you will pass the sign Mangofil, then the Village of Pottery and just after the Museum of the Cane, you will see on your right the sign telling you to turn to the right. You cannot go wrong because at the opposite, there is the Habitation Vatable on the other side of the road.
You will have no difficulty to park because you have several parking, one just at the entrance on your left and a second one, more at the bottom located next to the start of the trail.
Tip: This is a place where many families come for walks or picnics on the weekends. Choose the week if you want more peace.
The Vatable Forest is located in the mangrove and has been designed to welcome disabled people. Animated tablets and the house Mangrove will inform you about the biodiversity of the fauna and flora of this environment. Explanations will also be disclosed about the usefulness of the mangrove and how it survives between land and sea.
Access to the departure is next to the parking easily recognizable because you have the Mangrove House nearby.
Miscellaneous: You will see that it is possible to also kayak and to go around the Gros Îlet and walk along the mangrove. Schedules are not indicated, it is better to do it during the High Season.
Pass the wooden fence and start walking. The length of the course is 2 kilometers and you will need about 45 minutes to 1 hour quietly. Few climbs, there are no big difficulties. Wear tennis shoes because the ground can be muddy when you enter the mangrove and it will be easier for you to move.
The trail begins on a concrete road leading you to a courtyard where you will have a first view of the bay and the city of Fort-de-France. Go down on the pontoon to admire it. A little further, picnic tables are available.
Keep going until you see this sign indicating to go along the seaside.
The path leads you to a panoramic view of Genipa Bay. In the distance, Îlet Gros Îlet .

At the junction, you will see a color code on the tree indicating the right path to follow.
The path continues in the mangrove where you can see Violin Crabs, Touloulou Crabs, Beard Crabs and Crabs.

Continue until you reach after 15 minutes, a small wet clearing that runs along an arm of the mangrove.
Take on the right at the end of the path, the path will be mainly on wooden pontoons that will take you to a second junction.
Take the path on your right if you go left you will go to the Museum of cane
You will arrive on a forest path that will take you to the starting parking lot near the Mangrove House.
Tips :
Ø Circulation in Martinique: During the weeks you will encounter many traffic jams from 7 a.m. to 9. 30 a.m. in the industrial and commercial areas. Especially mornings driving from south (Rivière Salée, N5) to the North (Fort-de-France, A1), but also East (Robert , N1) going North , you will find the same traffic jams every evening on the other side from 5 p.m. to 6.30 p.m. Tip, think of the way and time you want to travel in order not to lose time. Ø Facilities: good pair of hiking shoes or tennis shoes bag with (knife, rain coat, lamp, hats or caps, sun glasses, sun cream and mosquito repellent). Ø Santitary conditions : – Difficulty : 2/10, easy walks for the whole family. Picnic areas at your disposal. – Take your time and go as you wish, plan the time that you will need depending on your physical condition. – Important tip : always have a bottle of water per person and a snack in your bag. – Normally, always start hiking at the earliest in the morning. The daytime heat during minimal sports activity can become quite stifling. This hike is largely in the shade in the forest except on the course health. Others : you can relax on the different areas, do kayak in the mangrove or visit de cane Museum, the Savanes des esclaves or go have lunch at the Pottery village and creol village. |
