Welcome to the town of Pointe-Noire, located on the west coast of Guadeloupe (Basse-Terre). This community has kept all its charm of yesteryear and all its history around wood and traditional crops (coffee, cocoa, cotton, cassava). Since the existence of this municipality and until today, the wood industry has always been developed in this territory with rich land for agriculture. In addition to wood crafts, agriculture and fishing, which are the main economic activities, Pointe-Noire is also moving towards eco-tourism. You will be able to discover traditional cultures through visits (Maison du Cacao, Habitation), orient yourself towards charming and popular places for nature lovers (waterfalls, lush vegetation, hikes) or even relax on the various beaches. offering a magnificent sunset every evening.
The Chemin des Mamelles, located on the Route de la Traversée, will make you discover one of the most beautiful panoramas of Guadeloupe. This path, also nicknamed the twin sisters, can combine the two hikes which are the ascent of the Mamelle Pigeon and the Mamelle de Petit-Bourg.
Advice: It is best to start with the Mamelle de Petit-Bourg then do the Mamelle Pigeon to save the most beautiful panorama for the end.
The ascent of the Mamelle Pigeon is accessible by the whole family (depending on physical condition) and covers 2 kilometers (round trip). The hike lasts 45 min to 1h30 (round trip) with an elevation gain of 187 m. You will have to climb some steep slopes. Watch out for slippery terrain.

In terms of advice,
Ø Traffic in Guadeloupe: During the week, you will face traffic jams around the Jarry area, especially in the morning, in the direction of Le Gosier towards Pointe-à-Pitre, and vice versa in the late afternoon. Think about your route in order to adapt to this traffic which can be dense and easily waste time.
Ø Equipment: Good pair of sneakers or hiking shoes, light clothing, hiking bag (knife, flashlight, rain jacket, cap, sunglasses, sunscreen, mosquito repellent).
Ø Health:
_ Difficulty: 4 out of 10, possible hike for the whole family (depending on physical condition and child over 8 years old or baby carrier). Slightly athletic walk but of short duration. Risk of slipping on the forest path during the descent.
– In normal times, always start hiking as early as possible in the morning. The daytime heat during minimal sporting activity can become quite stifling. This hike is mostly shaded except at the top (protect yourself well).
– Go at your own pace and plan the time you will need depending on your physical condition.
– The most important, always a bottle of water per person and something to snack in your bag. With the heat, all fairly physical hikes can be dangerous with fatigue.
Miscellaneous: You can undertake other hikes located on the Route de la Traversée or swim in the river (multiple places along the route to discover). Close to the town of Pointe-Noire, you can swim on Malendure beach, visit the Maison du cacao or cool off at Saut D’Acomat.
