Welcome to the town of Sainte-Luce, spread over numerous districts and located in the southern Caribbean of Martinique. The Trois Rivières district is located there in particular, it is known for its rum with the Habitation Trois Rivières.
The town of Sainte-Luce offers numerous panoramas of the Caribbean Sea thanks to its districts located in the heights of the Mornes. By the sea, the community’s numerous beaches will seduce you with its turquoise waters and calm seas, ideal for days out with family or friends.
In addition, the numerous seaside restaurants will offer you the opportunity to taste lobsters and other Creole dishes.
In terms of services, gas station, post office, bank and some souvenir shops will also be at your disposal, particularly in the town of the commune.
In terms of activities, you can enjoy the forest walking trails (Forêt Montravail) or the seaside (health trail) and the water activities on offer. The beaches of Sainte-Luce are very family-friendly and quite popular on weekends, but you will enjoy swimming there and taking advantage of the seaside infrastructure day and night to eat in the most peaceful settings.
Itinerary
To reach the starting point of the route, leaving from Fort-de-France, join the A1 expressway then head towards the south of the island (N5). You will pass through various roundabouts in Rivières Salée. At the next roundabout, you arrive at the roundabout indicating the direction of the Trois-Rivières plantation, continue straight again then turn right at the following roundabout. At the stop sign, turn left (D7) and drive for 10 to 15 minutes along the side until you arrive at the gendarmerie (on your left). The starting point of the route is located just opposite.
Park in the parking spaces located on the side of the road. You will generally have space but on Saturday and Sunday morning, there may be few places available. Many people take advantage of this health trail.
Tip: To park there easily, choose to come during the week because on weekends, many walkers leave from this point.
Tip: Consider if there are several of you to put a car at each starting point of the route to make it easier for you to return if you don’t want to walk again in the other direction.
Sainte-Luce health course
The Sainte Luce Health Route, in its entirety, is a 13 kilometer round trip trail, taking 2h30 in total. It is composed of two circuits
– one of 1360 m, from the starting point above (photo) to Pointe Philippeaux (45 min return);
– a second circuit of 5140 m from Pointe Philippeaux to Anse Mabouya (2h00 return).
On the first circuit you will find multiple exercises using equipment set up in green spaces or along the trail.
On the second circuit, fewer exercises are available but still magnificent panoramas and beaches to discover.
The course is accessible to the whole family, with little difference in altitude and well-designed paths which allow lovers of walking or jogging to enjoy a perfect setting to maintain good physical health.
You are off on the trail. You will follow the coastline for the entire first part of the course circuit.
You quickly notice that sports equipment is in place to practice stretching or muscle strengthening exercises.
After 5 minutes, you quickly arrive at the first cove.
Plage de Gros Raisin (First Beach)
Continue your journey to arrive at the second cove of this beach, larger and more equipped to be able to have lunch there, notably the Caribbean Food restaurant. Cross the parking lot to see a small bridge on the right.
Plage de Gros Raisin (second beach)
Take the path that runs along the beach to arrive at a new small cove and towards the first beach of the second circuit of the fitness trail.
End of the first circuit (1360 m) and
Start of the Second circuit (5140 m)
Enjoy the magnificent panorama of the part of this trail on the reclining woman and the Diamond Rock.

You arrive on the first beach of the second circuit after Pointe Philippeaux.
Beach Pont Café
You can also eat on this beach in the restaurants located on the Pierre et Vacances site in Sainte-Luce.
The path then continues towards a new small point to access one of the busiest coves on the coast of Sainte-Luce, due to the number of restaurants and the infrastructure in place to welcome people.
Watch out for the manchineel trees on your path. Easily recognizable because of their red marking. It is forbidden to stand under these trees in rainy weather because their leaves secrete an acidic material which can burn you.
Beach Corps de Garde
Sports fields and buoys are located on this cove, which allows various activities with family or friends.
Walk along the beach to access the next beaches of this cove.
Fond Banane
Désert (Petite Plage)
Désert
Head towards the bottom of the cove to discover a passage behind a small ruined building.
Follow this path which takes you back to a housing estate through which you must pass to reach the last cove of the route.

Consider wearing lycra and factor 50 sunscreen if you are accompanied by children in particular and if you want to enjoy the beaches which are not all shaded.
In terms of advice,
Ø Traffic in Martinique: During the week, you will face traffic jams around industrial or commercial zones, particularly in the morning, in the direction of the South (Rivières Salée, N5) towards the North (Fort-de-France, A1) and from the East (Robert, N1) to the North (Fort-de-France, A1), from 7 a.m. to 9:30 a.m., and vice versa at the end of the evening from 5:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Think about your journey in order to adapt to this traffic which can be heavy and easily cause you to waste time. Ø Equipment: Good pair of sneakers or hiking shoes, hiking pole, sports outfit, hiking bag (knife, flashlight, headlamp, k-way, cap, sunglasses, sun cream, mosquito repellent) . Ø Health: – Difficulty: 4 out of 10 (if total route otherwise 2 out of 10), walking with slight positive elevation changes over short distances, possible with a baby carrier or with children over 6 years old. – Usually, always start hikes early in the morning. The heat during the day during minimal sporting activity can become quite stifling. This hike is largely in the sun. – Go at your own pace and plan the time it will take depending on your physical condition. – The most important thing, always a bottle of water per person and something to snack on in your bag. With the heat, any fairly physical hikes can be dangerous with fatigue. Miscellaneous: You can relax on the different beaches along this route. For lovers of forest walks, you can go to the Forêt Montravail and for rum lovers, to the Habitation Trois-Rivières. |
