Welcome to the town of Pointe-Noire, located on the west coast of Guadeloupe (Basse-Terre). This community has kept all its charm of yesteryear and all its history around wood and traditional crops (coffee, cocoa, cotton, cassava). Since the existence of this municipality and until today, the wood industry has always been developed in this territory with rich land for agriculture. In addition to wood crafts, agriculture and fishing, which are the main economic activities, Pointe-Noire is also moving towards eco-tourism. You will thus be able to discover traditional cultures through visits (Maison du Cacao, Habitation), orient yourself towards charming and popular places for nature lovers (waterfalls, lush vegetation, hikes) or even relax on the various beaches. offering a magnificent sunset every evening.

Le Saut d’Acomat is a popular place in the town and accessible to the whole family (except people with reduced mobility). Located less than 15 minutes from the side of the road, the trail descends to the river and brings you past an emerald pool with a (dangerous) natural slide. Watch out for slippery terrain and roots on your descent to the basin.

Itinerary

To access this jump, from Pointe-à-Pitre, take the N1 towards Basseterre and Petit-Bourg then D23 (Route de la Traversée). This route will offer you many stops to satisfy your curiosity and your desire to swim in the river. At the end of this road, you will arrive on the Caribbean side (N2), follow the direction of Pointe-Noire. Go past the Maison du Cacao and the town’s general-purpose high school and turn 100 meters further on your right. Proceed on the path always straight and you will see the necessary indications and a not very spacious car park near a bridge. Park nearby or retrace your steps to park on the side of the road. The start to the jump is easy to find as you will find a sign just before the bridge on your right.

This is quite a popular location and you may find it a bit difficult to park nearby.

Le Saut d’Acomat

Take this stone path, good shoes are required.

The path is steep up to the river. Take care to descend gently and safely.

Another twenty meters to reach the bed of the river.

Once near the river, turn left to approach the Saut d’Acomat basin.

Watch out for slips on the rocks as you approach.

Here you are a few steps from the pool, many people enjoy cooling off in this pool deep enough to perform a few jumps from the rocks.

In terms of advice,

Ø Traffic in Guadeloupe: During the week, you will face traffic jams around the Jarry area, especially in the morning, in the direction of Le Gosier towards Pointe-à-Pitre, and vice versa in the late afternoon. Think about your route in order to adapt to this traffic which can be dense and easily waste time.

Ø Equipment: Pair of sneakers or open shoes, light clothing, hiking bag (knife, flashlight, k-way, cap, sunglasses, sunscreen, mosquito repellent), swimsuit and towel.

Ø Health:

Difficulty: 2 out of 10, short walk and a jump suitable for the whole family. Shaded trail, risk of slipping.

– In normal times, always start hiking as early as possible in the morning. The daytime heat during minimal sporting activity can become quite stifling.

– Go at your own pace and plan the time you will need based on your physical condition.

Most important, always a bottle of water per person and something to snack in your bag. With the heat, all fairly physical hikes can be dangerous with fatigue.

Miscellaneous: You can swim on Grande Anse beach visit the Cocoa Museum.
