Welcome to the Commune of Capesterre-Belle-Eau, located south-east of Basse-Terre. It is located between in land and sea with at the north of the territory majestic  hills and  ridges. In the south a common mouth of three major rivers flowing into the Atlantic Ocean. The commune of Capesterre-Belle-Eau, made of many localities (Banana, Cocoa Fund, La Plaine, Sainte-Marie, …..), is a land of banana growing,  traditional coffee and coffee.

There is a fishing port  located near the beach and the Bananier River.

In terms of services, you will find in the village of the municipality a post office, bank, service stations and a market. Take the opportunity to admire the Dumanoir alley, lined with palm trees.

In terms of activities in the municipal area, there is the Esperance distillery which produces Longueteau and Karukera rums. Many hiking departures are also possible including the inevitable Carbet Falls (the highest in the archipelago), located in the National Park of Guadeloupe. You can also take a walk in the gardens of spices and scents of Cantamerle.

Then on the sea side, you can enjoy the beaches Anses Bernard, Roseau or Banana. Finally, on the cultural history side, Sainte-Marie is the landing place of Christopher Columbus in 1493 where a bust of the navigator (1916) is located

Within the national park of Guadeloupe, you will have many circuits of excursions including the one allowing you to access the Bassin Paradise.

 

Itinerary

To access the starting point of the national park, starting from Pointe-à-Pitre, take the N1, towards Basse-Terre. You will pass the towns of Petit Bourg, Goyave before arriving in the town of Capesterre-Belle-Eau. Continue on the N1 and pass the village of the town towards the Bananier locality. You will see on your right, after 5 minutes drive, the direction towards the point of departure of the national park of Guadeloupe. Take this road (D4), and follow the direction of the reception of the national park, you will see on your right a small staircase and signs indicating the surrounding trails

 

You can park on the side of the road or go up to the parking lot of the national park. Many places are available in the parking lot.  Do not forget nevertheless that this site is very frequented (Departure of the Carbet Falls).

Le Bassin Paradise

This is a natural pool on the Grosse Rope River that allows you a cool break. Upstream and downstream of this basin, it is possible to find hot springs to relax.

The access to the pool starts with a steep staircase that takes you into the forest. The trail is a bit steep and it will take you about fifteen minutes to reach the pool. This hike is accessible to all the family, however, take your precautions according to your physical condition (hiker’s stick and take your time).

You are directly  in the forest, pay attention to slips and roots during the descent. You will be able to contemplate rather quickly the waters of the river, dripping towards Paradise Basin.

 

A few more meters and here you are in front of Paradise Basin.

Tips,

Ø Circulation in Guadeloupe: During the week, you will face traffic jams around the Jarry area, especially in the morning, in the direction of Gosier towards Pointe-à-Pitre or Petit-Bourg to Pointe-à-Pitre and vice versa. late afternoon. Think about your journey to adapt to this traffic that can be dense and make you lose time easily.

Ø Equipment: Good pair of sneakers or hiking shoes, light clothes, hiking bag (knife, flashlight, k-way, cap, sunglasses, sunscreen, mosquito repellent).

Ø  Health :

–          Difficulty: 3 out of 10, short walk and a natural pool reachable for the whole family. Shaded path, risks of slipping.

–        Take your time and go as you wish plan the time that yopu will need depending on your physical condition.

–        Important tip: always have a bottle of water per person and a snack in your bag. Normally, always start hiking at the earliest in the morning. The daytime heat during minimal sports activity can become quite stifling. This hike is largely in the shade in the forest except on the course health.

Others: You can hike the Carbet Falls. You can also take the road and head to the Archeological Park of Roches-Gravés or to the beach of Roseau.
