Pass the gate with your vehicle to access the car park.

Pay attention to the path to the car park, it is quite damaged in places due to repeated passages of trucks and tractors during the harvest of sugar cane.

Advance to the shop to be able to make the guided tour or a tasting of the different rums offered in the shop of the house.

A bit of history…….

In the 19th century, many rum distilleries were mainly sugar houses. They distilled their rum from molasses resulting from the manufacture of sugar. The development of the invention of the steam engine and its adoption in sugar houses will intensify and concentrate sugar production in large factories. The isolated dwellings will then concentrate exclusively on the production of agricultural rum, improved by the adoption of the European imported tray column replacing the still. After 1960, the closure of most sugar houses put an end to the production of industrial rum. The agricultural rum takes place with its flavors and terroir, making it rum that is recognized worldwide.

Among the nine still smoking distilleries, the Habitation Neisson was created in 1932 by the brothers Adrien and Jean NEISSON on the lands of Thieubert. This rum is a traditional distillery that was already distinguished at the time.

Since then, the distillery NEISSON has preserved its independence and produces a rum of exception in the purest Martinican tradition giving a rum with perfumes and tastes incomparable. The activity of the distillery corresponds to the sugar cane harvest period which generally takes place from the end of February to the end of June.

On November 5, 1996, rum Neisson obtains the Appellation d’Origine Contrôlée (A.O.C).

Today, it is managed by the daughter and grandson of Hildevert-Pamphille Neisson, founder of the distillery. The reputation of Rum Neisson continues to grow abroad, and the rewards are becoming more numerous

To visit the site, introduce yourself at the store, a guide will explain the history and the different processes of making this exceptional rum. The visit is free and informative panels will complete the oral presentation of the guide.

You will do the tour of the distillery and you will have the opportunity to observe the distillation column.

End of the visit, you can now taste the different rums of the Habitation.

Personally, Neisson white rum at 52.5 ° left me an excellent taste memory in ti-punch. You will also have the opportunity to discover a white rum Bio 66 ° with an incredible smell and aroma. Feel free to browse their website to learn about the different rums designed by Habitation Neisson.

TIPS:

Ø  Ø Circulation in Martinique:  During the weeks you will encounter many traffic jams from 7 a.m. to 9. 30 a.m. in the industrial and commercial areas. Especially mornings driving from south (Rivière Salée, N5) to the North (Fort-de-France, A1), but also East (Robert , N1) going North , you will find the same traffic jams every evening on the other side from 5 p.m. to 6.30 p.m. Tip, think of the way and time you want to travel in order not to lose time.

Ø  Free visit and tasting :

–           Interest : 3 / 5, the visit of the house is interesting but the main interest of this distillery is the discovery of an exceptional artisanal rum.
