Welcome to the municipality of the Prêcheur, located in the north of the island. This isolated community has the characteristic of having a weak demography and living mainly from fishing. The seabed, located near this commune, are very rich and are also very well preserved by the local population.

Many buildings on this municipality are classified historical monuments and the mainly nautical activities (diving, fishing, surfing, snorkeling) will enchant you.

Finally, you will have other activities available such as the water falls of Couleuvre, hiking Prêcheur -Grand’Rivière, climbing the Mountain Pelee or even canyoning. This is a peaceful commune that will make you feel different and make you discover places that have retained all their charm of yesteryear such as the beaches of Anse Couleuvre or Anse Lévrier. It’s up to you to explore them.

Finally, you can visit L’Habitation Céron, a domain on which lives the most beautiful tree of 2016 (Zamana).

Open every day from 9.30am to 5pm. The visit of the Habitation is charged (8 euros per adult and 5 euros per child). the Habitation Céron is moved towards agrotourism

Itinerary

To reach this beach, leave Fort-de-France (more than an hour’s drive), take the A1 towards the north of the island (Schoelcher, Case-Pilote). Pass several roundabouts and you are on the N2. Continue your route and pass the towns of Case-Pilote, Bellefontaine, Le Carbet and Saint-Pierre. You are on the D10 in direction of the commune of the Preacher. Pass the town, you will see indications for Habitation Céron. As you approach the Anse Ceron, you will cross a bridge and you will see a sign indicating the entrance to the Habitation.

Take on your right, direction the entrance of the domain, the road is damaged and you will have to be vigilant with your vehicle.

At the end of the trail you will find a parking space quite spacious where you can park easily. It is located next to a pond and you can already soak up the lush vegetation that surrounds you.

Habitation Céron

Head towards the pedestrian entrance of the domain to go to the shop where you will have to pay the entrance for the visit. However, there is an alternative for free access if you eat one of the menus offered in the restaurant located in the area.

The aim of the visit consists of discovering the ruins and gardens of the Habitation. It takes place in a loop that will make you pass twice in front of the most beautiful tree of the year 2016. The trail of the visit is accessible to the whole family and it will take you about 30 minutes to make the loop.

In front of the many species of trees, plants, you will see information panels indicating their names and origins.

After walking a few minutes, you will reach the front of the House of the Habitation and its walls of stones, vestiges of the sugar activity of the XVII century. The estate has retained all of its sugar and manioc manufacturing buildings

What you should know …

The Habitation Céron has been involved in agro-tourism for several years with the creation of crayfish basins, the rehabilitation of its cocoa bean and the processing of its beans, market gardening and the cultivation of fruit trees. Flavors that you can will be able find in the restaurant dishes.

A large-scale project and aided by the surrounding environment (Biological Reserve Integral and classified for its landscapes). By visiting the Habitation, you will take part in safeguarding this exceptional biodiversity heritage.

Walk around on the right along the ruins and cross a bridge leading to the garden.

You will have a small passage on pieces of trunks on the ground to avoid getting your feet wet in case of strong flow of the river.

There you are in the gardens and you begin to see a majestic tree in the distance. Advance to realize the eversion of this incredible tree.

Located in the middle of the beautiful flowered park, this tree (Zamana) is listed as one of the biggest visible trees of the small caribbean.

Flowers, plants and trees take advantage of the ambient humidity and the streaming water of the river.

Click on this link to have a first video preview of the green vegetation on our Facebook page.

The loop continues either through the left or right of the Zamana. The meaning of the visit is by the right if you wish to follow the plan.

I started the tour by the left, yes I did not look at the plan …..

Going left, you will pass by a bridge then a path that will plunge you into a very dense fauna. You will follow the river.

Do not hesitate to bathe your feet to refresh yourself.

Pay attention and be careful of the branches and  the  mud (risk of slipping) that may be on your way.

At the end of the loop, you find yourself facing the Zamana again.

Do not hesitate to browse their website to find out more about the restaurant’s menu, the team that handles this area or to get the Habitation’s contact information.
