Welcome to the common Diamond, known for its majestic rock and to have the largest beach in Martinique (about 4 kilometers). You will also enjoy discovering the church located in the town (historical monument) or to visit the Museum of shells and Cape 110. It is also possible to practice water activities on the town (jet ski, diving at rock, fishing) that will satisfy you and make you discover the town in another way. For convenience services you will find souvenir shops, a covered market, seafront restaurants, a post office. It is a peaceful town where you can spend the day by the sea, facing the Rock, enjoy fruit and other dishes from the market to enjoy the Caribbean coast. The sea can be well shaken, we recommend increased vigilance and abuse of the hammock in the shade of coconut trees.

This monument in memory of slaves is easily accessible. Leaving from Fort-de-France, you must go to the town of Diamant (towards the South of the Island by the N5 then the D7), cross the village where you can enjoy a superb view of the Rock of the Diamond going to the pontoon in front of the church. Continue on the D37 and you will see after 10 minutes of road, the site on your left.

Park on the roadside, a fairly wide band is provided for this purpose and you will have no trouble finding space nearby. Go down the stairs and enjoy the sight of these sculptures in the background, the Diamond Rock.

You can get closer to the barriers at the edge of the cliff to get a closer look at the Rock.

On your left, the view of the white sandy beach of Diamant 4 km long and the beach of Anse Caffard.

Beyond the magnificent view and the sculptures, this memorial and these sculptures were created at the initiative of the commune of the Diamond and by the sculptor Laurent Valère. The statues were made in the municipality of Trinité. They are 15, made of reinforced concrete, measure 2.5 m and weigh 4 tons per sculpture. It was set up on the occasion of the 150th anniversary of the abolition of slavery, in 1998.

a little of history……

April 8, 1830, a slave ship dropped anchor at five o’clock in the bay of Anse Caffard. A few hours later, a local resident, François DIZAC, observes that the boat may run aground on the rocks but a swell too dangerous prevents it from putting a boat overboard to prevent them. He tried to make signals, but to no avail, at eleven pm, the boat ran aground on the coast, it was completely destroyed. The sea carried with it forty-six persons. The nationality and the name of the boat have never been established.

During this sinking, eighty-six people (captives) managed to swim to the coast and were saved. Collected by François DIZAC, they were transferred to Fort-de-France. Six wounded were left on the Diamond Beach House, unable to be transported. The survivors were all from Africa

Today, the memorial pays homage to the victims of this shipwreck, but it also wants to remember with visitors that slavery was a dark page in human history and should never be forgotten. , in memory of all those victims of trafficking of these men from Africa.

This monument is oriented to Cape 110 degrees, towards the Gulf of Guinea, from where the boat was supposed to come.

Signs near the Memorial stairs are available to any readers who want to read the story and have more information.

Nearby, you can also take Aimé Césaire walk along the seaside.
