Welcome to the island of Saint-Martin, located north of the Lesser Antilles and a land of sharing. Divided into two administrative parts and despite significant artificialization due to ever-increasing real estate pressure for tourist reception, the territory has managed to save and preserve biodiversity degraded by climatic events and man.

Day and night, many activities will be offered to you throughout the territory.

The heavenly beaches and their nautical activities, hiking, visits or places of relaxation and parties will allow everyone to find what they are looking for.

An ideal and suitable compromise for either a weekend with friends or a family trip that the Island of Saint-Martin is the only one to offer.

Let’s go and discover these white sand beaches.

Plage du Galion is a large white sand beach about 2 kilometers long. The sea is not very rough because the beach is protected by a coral reef. The shape of the beach and its turquoise waters make it a very pleasant little pool for a family swim or learning to windsurf or surf.

Itinerary

To reach the beach, from the airport, head towards the east of the island by taking the N7 towards Saline Orient. The beach is located less than 10 minutes from the airport.

A little before the beach car park you will see large ponds (Saline Orient and Etang aux Poissons).

You have arrived in the Baie de l’Embouchure.

Proceed to the seaside and turn left to find the easily recognizable sign indicating the entrance to the beach. However, you can escape on other trails around to find a more secluded stretch of beach.

Galion Beach

You will have no trouble finding a place given the extent of the beach. A restaurant and services existed before the hurricane. Since then, the activities have not returned (except for surfing and windsurfing activities with SXM Surf Explorer) but the beach has kept all its charm of yesteryear.

Keep yourself at the edge of the coast, you will be able to contemplate the important extent of this white sand beach.

You will be able to observe that you are also located in a nature reserve.

Enjoy the calm and translucent waters of this beach. Only drawback, the sargassum tends to run aground in the center of the beach. In this case, you can put yourself on the left of the range.

The bay is not shaded and you will need a parasol. Beware of the harmful effects of the sun.

It’s up to you to discover it now!

In terms of advice,

Ø Traffic on the island of Saint-Martin: Prefer renting a vehicle because the island is quite large. On weekdays, you will face a few traffic jams in the morning around the Marigot agglomeration, in the direction of the South (Grand Case towards Le Marigot) from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m., and vice versa at the end of the evening from 5 p.m. to 6.30 p.m. Think about your route in order to adapt to this traffic which can be dense and easily waste time.

Ø Equipment: Slides, swimsuit, towel, beach bag (knife, k-way, cap, sunglasses, sunscreen, mosquito repellent).

Ø Health:

Quality of bathing area: Excellent (Source: Ministry of Health, see map);

Accessibility: Easily by car, no disabled access and difficult to access at the level of the dune;

Mandatory sunscreen because the beach is well exposed to the sun, even think of lycras for children and adults;

Most important, always a bottle of water per person and something to snack in your bag.

Miscellaneous: Take advantage of the island’s many beaches and other walking trails. The territory is also full of nautical activities.
